Group and Role Description

We are a new research group in Computational Neuroscience & Neural Computation at the University of Coimbra. This scholarship offers a 1-year,
- time hybrid position for a Research Assistant in Computational Neuroscience at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology located in Coimbra. Throughout this project, you will collaborate with several European partners via regular meetings, will be involved in an exciting project to investigate the computational role of
- cellular interactions in circuit learning and neural computation and will have the opportunity to present your work at international conferences and publications.

Project Description

Local interaction between neighboring synapses modulates the expression of plasticity. This fellowship will work on mathematical models that encompass the key physiological effects and functional consequences of this compartmentalized heterosynaptic plasticity. This goal will be pursued through the following tasks:

1. Augment a
- compartmental neuron model to incorporate electrogenic dendritic events.

2. Derive, implement, validate and compare different formalisms for heterosynaptic plasticity whose

primary expression mechanism is coupled to dendritic (rather than synaptic) variables, i. e. intracellular calcium variants and voltage dynamics.

3. Implement a new model of interactions between excitatory and inhibitory synaptic plasticity and

investigate its functional consequences.

Qualifications

• Strongly quantitative background: Physics, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI
• Good Communication skills
• Experience in Research Software development and testing
• Strong passion and commitment to scientific research
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Position aimed for students enrolled in a Doctoral degree program or Master's degree holders enrolled in a
