A call for tenders is now open for the attribution of one Research Scholarship within the scope of the Project "SINFONIA - Sustainable Agroecosystems, Food Innovation, and Artistic Practices for Climate Adaptation" financed by the European Union (FEDER), through the Northern Regional Programme (Norte 2030), under the following conditions, set out below.

General requirements:
Candidates for the Research grant must, at the date of application, be enrolled, or present a commitment to enroll in a study cycle conferring an (Doctoral) degree in Arts or related areas. Candidates for the Research Grant, after selection, to begin the contracting process, must enroll in the Science and Technology of the Arts doctoral program at the School of Arts, in accordance with the theme and work plan of the grant to be carried out within the scope of the aforementioned project. Indeed, this doctoral program must be carried out at the School of Arts of Universidade Católica Portuguesa and supervised by a team identified for the implementation of the work plan.
Candidates must have a Master in Arts, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Specific requirements:
Candidates must also have knowledge/research experience in the following areas:
- Background and/or experience in Science and Technology of the Arts, Digital Arts, Conservation and Restoration, Data Science, Creative Computing, or related areas.
- Knowledge of Io
T, creative programming, machine learning, and/or data visualization (e. G. , Python, Processing, Touch
Designer, or similar frameworks). - Demonstrated interest and ability for interdisciplinary research across art, science, and technology.
- Ability to design and develop experimental artistic projects based on data or intelligent systems.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Preferred Factors:
Will be considered preferred factors:
- Previous experience in interactive installations, generative art, or artistic projects.
- Familiarity with Io
T sensor systems (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc. ) and data analysis platforms. - Scientific and artistic communication skills, including participation in exhibitions, conferences, or publications.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and to articulate artistic practices with scientific research methodologies.
- Interest in sustainability and the conservation of artistic heritage from a contemporary perspective.
Work Plan:
The main goal is to understand how AI predictive models can be integrated into preventive conservation strategies while simultaneously inspiring artistic practices that respond to climatic dynamics and the materiality of artworks.
The work plan includes:
- Theoretical and technological research on environmental monitoring and AI methodologies applicable to the arts and conservation.
- Use and adaptation of an environmental data collection and analysis system (developed in a previous project), using Io
T sensors. - Development of predictive models (machine learning, AI) for biodeterioration and exploration of their application as creative and interpretative tools.
- Development of artistic prototypes and interactive mediations that make use of environmental variation data and deterioration risk indicators.
- Critical and theoretical assessment of the results, articulating science, technology, and art from an interdisciplinary perspective.
- Public presentation of artistic and scientific outcomes through exhibitions, publications, and academic communications.

Workplace:
The work will be developed at the Research Centre in Science and Technology of the Arts (CITAR). of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Portugal, in Porto, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Doutor André Baltazar and Prof. Doutor Pedro Rodrigues.
Duration of the scholarship:
The scholarship, which is expected to begin on January 15, 2026, will have an initial duration of 12 months on an exclusive basis. This grant may be renewed for an additional period of 17, 5 months, but may not exceed the end of the project, scheduled for June 30, 2028.
Monthly maintenance allowance amount:
The amount of the scholarship corresponds to 1309, 64 euros. according to the research scholarship values awarded directly by FCT, I. P. in the Country and will be paid by
