Legal Admission Requirements
- I – Grant Recipients: Master’s in Informatics Engineering or Data Science and Engineering, enrolled in a Ph. D. program in Information Science or Informatics Engineering.
- I. I – Ineligible Candidates: Candidates who have already benefited from two research grant contracts with UC while enrolled in a doctoral degree.
- I. III – Eligibility for grant assignment if meeting the requirements:
- a) Portuguese nationals or nationals of other EU Member States
- b) Nationals of third countries
- c) Stateless persons
- d) Beneficiaries of political refugee status

Work Plan / Goals to be Achieved
The aim of these activities is for the scholarship holder to develop new knowledge and skills in Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on the development of methodologies and techniques in Evolutionary Computation and Machine Learning.
- Review of the state of the art on Evolutionary Algorithms and image tampering detection.
- Implementation of an evolutionary algorithm for image tampering detection.
- Experimentation with the developed prototype and analysis of results, comparing them with state‑of‑the‑art approaches.
Initial Grant Duration
5 months, as long as it doesn't exceed the end date of the project.
Renewal Possibility
Possibly renewable.
Funding and Financial Conditions
- Monthly grant amount (paid by bank transfer at the end of each month): €1 309, 64.
- Tuition fees up to €2 750, 00 for Ph. D. students at the University of Coimbra, supported by own resources.
- Voluntary social security (SSV) is included when the grant lasts six months or more, corresponding to the first level, if the candidate opts for it.
- Mandatory personal accident insurance.
- The grant is funded by the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan and by the Next Generation EU Funds.
Information and Publicity About the Funding
All R&D activities funded by the scholarship must reference PRR in communications, publications, and theses. Monitoring may be carried out by national and community organisations.
Selection Methods
- Evaluation of the academic record (AR) 50% and Interview (I) 50%.
- AR – Criteria:
- Criterion 1: Masters average – 40%;
- Criterion 2: Academic performance in Programming and Artificial Intelligence subjects – 60%.
- I – Interview – Criteria:
- Criterion 1: Knowledge in AI, Evolutionary Computation and Machine Learning – 80%;
- Criterion 2: Motivation and interest – 20%.
- Final Classification: AR * 0. 5 + I * 0. 5.
- Candidates scoring below 50 in any method are excluded. Subsequent methods do not apply.
