Admission requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nutrition Sciences, Food Engineering, or other similar areas, and enrollment in a master’s degree in the areas covered by the application or enrollment/attendance of a non‑degree course taught by a higher education institution in conjunction with an R&D unit. Experience in characterizing the profile of bioactive compounds in
- based matrices, in the optimized development of food prototypes, and in sensory evaluation will be valorized.

In case the bachelor’s degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of August 16th, and all formalities established therein must be complied with at the signature of Fellowship contract.

Working plan

• Assessment of the bioactive compound profile (phenolic compounds and vitamins) of
  - based ingredients (legumes, pseudo‑cereals);
• Development of formulations designated in the project at laboratory scale and prototyping;
• Characterization of the rheological, textural, physicochemical, colorimetric, and nutritional properties of the developed prototypes;
• Assessment of the sensory profile and acceptance of the developed prototypes;

Work Place

The work will be conducted at the Departamento de Química e Bioquímica from FCUP, under the supervision of Doctor Ana Fernandes, Doctor Joana Oliveira and Professor Doctor Iva Fernandes.

Duration

The fellowship will have a duration of 8 months, scheduled to start on January 2026.

Selection will be based on an assessment of the candidate’s scientific and academic background. The evaluation will consider the Bachelor’s final grade (C1), experience and coherence of Curriculum Vitae in the area of the application (C2).

The final score for the academic and scientific track record (ACPS) will be calculated using the following formula:

If there are candidates whose score is within 10% of the highest‑scoring candidate, the jury will interview the top candidate and any other candidates within this range. In this case, the interview will carry a weight of 20%.

The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.

Publicity and communication of results

The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
