A call is open for the allocation of 1 (one) research fellowship for a Post-Doctoral Research Grant (BIPD) within I&DT Project “Green
Auto: Green innovation for the Automotive Industry” funded by the Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência de Portugal, within the scope of the incentive system “Agendas para a Inovação Empresarial”, taking place at the Department of Electromechanical Engineering of the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal, under the following conditions:
Scientific Area:
Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Objectives:
To develop an interoperable transducer network to support the development of the Digital Twin, integrating data from industrial welding processes through instrumentation and digitalization for predictive capacity, focusing on interoperability and security within a smart manufacturing framework using the IEEE 1451.
Work Plan:
- Develop a digital twin concept capable of fulfilling the requirements for PPS14—Predictive quality control system for welding, WP9: control systems for the automotive industry, from the project Green
Auto: Green innovation for the Automotive Industry. - Conceptualise a secure transducer network communication between devices connected to the digital twin based on the IEEE 1451 family of standards.
- Propose a solution for the digital twin to fulfill the requirements on interoperability and security within industrial communication.
- Participate in meetings related to the PPS14 (in Portuguese).
- Provide support and organization for the development of a smart welding pilot prototype for the project using the data acquired by the sensors during the welding process.
- Elaborate reports and scientific publications on the work developed and participated in national/international events to promote the dissemination of knowledge acquired based on the results achieved.

Place of Work:
The work will be developed at the Instrumentation and Measurement Laboratory of the Department of Electromechanical Engineering at the University of Beira Interior under the scientific guidance of Professor Doctor António Espírito Santo.
Fellowship Duration and Conditions:
The fellowship will have a duration of 8 months, scheduled to start in November 2025. The fellowship may be renewed until the end of the project. The activity is in regime of exclusive dedication in accordance with the RBIUBI.

Skills/Qualifications
- Hold a Ph. D in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science, or related areas. Preference is given to those with proven experience in the study and development of digital twins and instrumentation and measurement, focused on interoperability and security between elements inside the smart factories composed by Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) in the Industry 4. 0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIo
T), in particular, using the IEEE 1451 family of standards for transducer communication and management.
- Experience working in an international context and/or experience in national/European projects focusing on the areas of electrical and computing engineering. Good communication skills and fluency in oral and written Portuguese and English.
The following requirements must also be cumulatively verified:
- Doctor degree granted in the three years prior to the date of the application submission;
- Post-doctoral research (BIPD) in an organic unit different from the one where the R&D activities that led to the attribution of the doctoral degree were carried out;
- The fellowship holder doesn’t exceed, with the fellowship contract in question, including any renewals, an accumulated period of 3 years in this type of fellowship, followed or interpolated.
If the required academic degree has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, the requirements of Decree-Law 66/2018, of 16th August and Ministerial Order no. 33/2019, of 25th January, shall be obeyed. The presentation of a recognized Ph

Additional Information
The fellowship amount corresponds to 1. 851, 00€ according to the table of values attributed directly by the FCT fellowships, I. P. in the country. The fellowship payments will be made monthly via bank transfer. The fellowship holder will have personal accident insurance and can choose to be covered by voluntary social insurance. These values will be added to the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance.

Selection process
The selection method will be carried out in the following parameter: presential interview and curriculum evaluation having attention to the work plan description, with the respective valuation of 40% and 60%.

Complaint and Appeal Procedures:
After communicating the provisional lists of the results in the different phases of the selection process (Admission and Exclusion, Curricular Evaluation, and Interview), the candidates have 10 working days to pronounce their disagreement, under the terms of article 121 and the Código do Procedimento Administrativo. If any allegations are presented, the final decision will be issued after analyzing the statements presented during the prior hearing of interested parties. After the statutory deadline of 10 working days, the proposal for the final classification and ranking of the candidates becomes definitive.
