Offer Description
A tender is hereby opened for the award of 1 Research Studentship (BI) under the QUIPACK project – “Food value chain intelligence and integrative design for the development and implementation of innovative food packaging according to bioeconomic sustainability criteria”, reference PRIMA/0002/2023, hosted by the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM), under the following conditions:
1. Scientific Area: Environmental Sciences and Engineering
2. Funding Source: Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), via national funds (PIDDAC)
3. Admission Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in an integrated Master's or Master's programme in the area of
Environmental Sciences and Engineering. In addition, candidates should have the following preferential requirements: have demonstrable experience in carbon footprinting and oral and written command of the Portuguese language.
The proof of enrolment must be made available until the contract is awarded, and the candidate may attach a declaration of honor to confirm that they meet the requirements for enrolment in an integrated master's degree, master's.
If a foreign higher education institution has conferred the qualification it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th, which approves the legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, attributed by foreign higher education institutions, and of paragraph e) of no. 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of August 3rd, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the hiring act .
4. Eligibility: Applicants must comply with the provisions set out in point a) of article 2(1) of the Research Grant Holder Statute, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of 28 August, as well as articles 6(1) and 6(2) of the FCT Research Grants Regulation. Grants awarded to bachelor’s or master’s degree holders enrolled in
- degree courses may only be granted to candidates who, at the time of contract signature (including any renewals), have not previously exceeded a total of two years under this type of grant, whether consecutive or interpolated, in accordance with Article 6(5) of the aforementioned Regulations.
5. Work plan:The work to be carried out during the fellowship includes collecting and validating the information needed for the Carbon Footprint/Life Cycle Assessment of innovative
- based food packaging (liners, cardboard trays) from agricultural side streams, and participating in the preparation of reports, scientific articles, communications and other publications.
6. Legislation and Applicable Regulations: Research Grant Holder Statute (as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of 28 August); FCT Research Grants Regulation No. 950/2019, published in Diário da República, No. 241, 2nd Series, of 16 December; Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of 16 August (legal framework for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign institutions).
7. Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) / Department of Environment and Planning, University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Dr Paula Sofia Gil Neto Quinteiro.
8. Duration of the grant : The grant will have an initial duration of 6 months, starting on 1 September 2025, renewable for additional 6-month periods up to the limit of approved funding and subject to the constraints set out in articles 6(3) and 6(4) of Regulation No. 950/2019, of 29 November, published in the Official Gazette, No. 241, 2nd Series, of 16 December (FCT, I. P. Research Grant Regulations).
9. Monthly Maintenance Allowance: The monthly amount is €1, 040. 98, according to the table of values defined in Annex I of Regulation No. 950/2019, subject to applicable updates pursuant to Article 18(2) of Regulation No. 950/2019 of 29 November, published in the Official Gazette, No. 241, 2nd Series, of 16 December (FCT, I. P. Research Grant Regulations). The grant holder may also be reimbursed for voluntary social security contributions, if applicable.
10. Selection Methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following:
The selection method to be used will be Curricular Assessment, with the option of an interview.
The Curricular Assessment, weighted 0 - 20, will be carried out in accordance with the following criteria and weightings:
- Academic qualifications and curriculum vitae in the scientific area of the competition (80%);
- Proven experience in carbon footprinting (20%).
The selection method Interview may be used if the jury does not consider itself duly qualified to decide based on the Curriculum Evaluation. In the event of an interview, the final assessment will be weighted 80% by the curricular assessment and 20% by the interview.
The jury reserves the right not to admit candidates with a score of less than 10 points on a scale of 0-20 points for an interview, or not to award the grant if none of the candidates has a final score of at least 10 points.
12. Deadline for applications and how to submit applications: The call is open from 30 /07/2025 to 14/08/2025 , and only applications submitted within the deadline will be admitted.
Applications must be formalized by sending a letter of application accompanied by the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications, declaration of honor and other motivation letter. They shall also indicate the
- mail address to which by such indication they accept to be notified for all purposes within this procedure.
13. Form of publication/notification of results: Final results will be published as an alphabetically ordered list on the University of Aveiro website, within 90 business days of the deadline. Selected candidates will also be notified by email. A 10-day period for prior hearing is granted under the Portuguese Administrative Procedure Code. After this period, and in the absence of any objections, the provisional ranking becomes final. Appeals may be lodged within 15 working days, or 30 working days in case of complaints to the funding body’s executive board.
14. Tender duration: The final ranking list of candidates will be valid until 31/10/2025 for the purpose of constituting a reserve list for selection.
