CANDIDATES PROFILE / CANDIDATE ADMISSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Mandatory requirements:
- A Master-'s degree in Mathematics, Physics, Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Engineering Physics, Data Science, or related areas;
- Applicants must comply with the eligibility conditions set out in Article 9 of the Research Grant Regulations, No. 950/2019, of 16-12-2019, of FCT I. P.
At the time of the respective hiring, candidates must prove that they are enrolled in a Ph
D in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Engineering Physics, Data Science, or related areas.
Preferential factors:
- Previous experience in modelling and control;
Requirement for granting the fellowship:
The applicants may apply without prior registration in the course for which the fellowship is open. The requirement to enroll in a degree course will be verified on the date of contracting the fellowship.
- Only fellowships whose selected applicants present a valid proof of enrollment in a degree course will be contracted, issued by a Higher Education Institution, indicating the academic year or its duration (start and term).
APPLICATION / ADMISSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The call is open from 24/09/2025 to 08/10/2025 (23:00 – Europe/Lisbon).

DURATION OF THE RESEARCH GRANT
The research grant will last 8 months, with a provisional starting date in December 2025. The grant may be renewed up to the maximum allowed by the project and/or applicable law to complete the degree or project activities.
Work Plan and Objectives
The work will be part of the Water
Plaan exploratory project, studying irrigation and fertilization effects on agricultural fields and water resources, focusing on reusing water from wastewater treatment plants. Using optimal control techniques and predictive modeling, the project aims to develop management policies for irrigation, fertilization, and crop cultivation to optimize resource use and reduce water pollution.
Host Institution and Scientific Supervision
CTAC - Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction - Civil Engineering Department, School of Engineering, University of Minho, Azurém (Guimarães). Supervision by Doctor Filipa Nunes Nogueira (Invited Assistant Professor, Univ. of Minho) and coordination by Doctor José Luís Barroso Aguiar.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications are evaluated on merit on a 0 to 5 scale, comprising:
- Criterion A – Motivation letter (10%)
- Criterion B – Academic path (Bachelor/Master/Integrated Master final classification) (50%)
- Criterion C – Personal curriculum (professional and scientific background) (40%)
CM = (A*0. 10) + (B*0. 50) + (C*0. 40). The Panel may choose not to award the grant based on results.

Communication of Results
Results are announced by email within 60 working days after the application deadline, with minutes attached. Candidates may comment within 10 working days after notification.
Complaint and Appeal Procedures
The selected candidate must indicate acceptance of the grant within 10 working days. The final decision may be contested within 15 working days; appeals may be lodged with the Rector within 30 working days after notification.
Requirements for Final Awarding of the Grant
Contract signing with the University of Minho requires submission of documents such as identity, degree certificates, recognition of foreign degrees (if applicable), enrollment proof in the doctoral program, Science ID, bank details, NIF, and digital signature.
The contract can be concluded within 6 months of application; the contracting entity has 60 working days to finalize the grant contract after documents are received.
Monthly Maintenance Allowance
The basic monthly allowance is 1, 309. 64 euros, per FCT values, paid by bank transfer on the 23rd of each month.

Exclusivity Regime
The grantee will perform activities under exclusivity as per the regulations.
Terms and Conditions for Grant Renewal
Renewal is possible within regulatory limits, based on a renewal petition with required supporting documents, including supervisor
- up report and enrollment in the degree program.
Term and Cancellation of Grant Contracts
Grant ends on completion of the contracted work plan or expiry of the granted period. A Final Report must be submitted within 60 working days after grant end, per regulations.
