Research Studentships (for Ph
D students)

Applications are open for one Research Studentship for Ph
D students, within the framework of Hy
WAAM Project, 2023. 12345. PEX, financed by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.

Scientific Area: Manufacturing and Industrial Management

Admission Requirements:

• Be enrolled in a Ph
  D program, and declare a commitment to remain enrolled until the grant’s contract is completed.
• Hold a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production specialization, with a score of 15 or higher (out of 20) and with a completed thesis in hybrid additive manufacturing.
• Have skills and experience in the utilization of machine tools and universal testing machines; industrial metrology equipment; performing mechanical characterization and formability tests; data acquisition systems; manufacturing processes and joining by forming processes; numerical simulation software for metal forming processes; and additive manufacturing processes and equipment for metals and polymers.
• Have scientific publications in Q1 journals (according to the SCImago database) on hybrid additive manufacturing incorporating metal forming operations.

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries must be registered by a Portuguese institution, according to the Decree‑Law nr. 66/2018 and Ordinance nr. 33/2019. Workplan and the objectives to achieve: The work to be carried out in the field of minimalist window frames consists of the following tasks and objectives:

• Task 1 – Synergistic combination of Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing and metal forming processes.
• Task 2 – Evaluation of production costs and environmental impacts.

Workplace: IDMEC – Institute of Mechanical Engineering, the Host and Contracting Entity, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Carlos Manuel Alves da Silva and Prof. João Pedro da Fonseca Matos Pragana.

Duration: The research fellowship will last 6 months and may be renewed. It is expected to begin in January 2026.

Selection methods: The selection will be based on:

• A) Adequacy and merit of the Curriculum Vitae relative to the thematic area (95%).
• B) Motivation for the proposed work (5%).

Composition of the selection Jury

Brief minutes of the jury meetings will be drawn up, indicating the names and affiliation of the jury members, the names of the excluded and admitted candidates, the criteria and respective assessment per candidate, ranking of candidates, and all decisions must have clear and sufficient grounds. The minutes must be accompanied by declarations of conflict of interest (CDI) of all members.

Announcement/notification of the results: The final evaluation results will be communicated to all applicants by email. After being notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit a formal rebuttal by email.

Application deadline and formalization: The call is open from December 10 to December 23, 2025, until 18:00.
