SAP IS-U Specialist
Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4-6 years of hands‑on experience as an SAP Functional Consultant, Technical Consultant, or Specialist within the SAP IS‑U module.
- Mandatory in‑depth configuration experience in at least one core IS‑U area (Billing/Invoicing is highly desirable; FICA/DM is a strong alternative).
- Proven experience in an L2/L3 support and maintenance environment, utilizing an IT Service Management tool (e. g. , Service
Now, Solution Manager). - Ability to read and debug ABAP code (or strong proficiency in another technical area like interfaces/PI/PO) is a significant advantage.
- Solid understanding of the end‑to‑end Meter‑to‑Cash (M2C) process in a utility environment.
- Technical & Functional Execution: Deep practical knowledge of IS‑U configuration, tables, and functional logic, coupled with the ability to execute changes efficiently.
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Expert ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex system errors, often involving integration points and custom code.
- ITIL & Service Management: Strong adherence to ITIL principles (Incident, Problem, and Change Management) within the Run environment.
- Proactivity & Ownership: Takes full ownership of assigned issues, driving them to permanent resolution and seeking out opportunities for preventative maintenance.
- Detail Orientation: Meticulous in documenting changes, testing results, and system processes to maintain the stability of the production environment.
Leadership & Team Management:
- Act as the go‑to subject matter expert (SME) for specific IS‑U functional areas (e. g. , Meter Reading, Billing, Dunning process) for the operations team.
- Mentor and cross‑train L1/L2 support staff on complex or recurring IS‑U issues and standardized resolution procedures.
- Collaborate closely with technical teams (ABAP, Basis) on performance tuning, debugging custom code, and applying SAP notes/patches.
- Execute system configuration and master data updates required for incident resolution and approved minor change requests, ensuring adherence to change control processes.
- Support the transition‑to‑operations (TTO) process for all new fixes and small enhancements, ensuring smooth deployment and stable handover to L1/L2 support.
- Maintain the health and integrity of the IS‑U production environment by routinely reviewing system logs, batch job status, and background process performance.
Solution Development & Customization:
- Perform in‑depth analysis and troubleshooting (L2/L3) of complex, cross‑module incidents, utilizing debugging tools (e. g. , ABAP debugger) to pinpoint root causes.
- Document detailed configuration steps, functional specifications for small developments, and testing results for all changes applied to the system.
- Implement standard SAP functionality or minor configuration changes to address process inefficiencies or correct data errors identified in the maintenance phase.
- Manage and execute testing cycles (Unit Testing, Regression Testing) for fixes and enhancements, often supporting or coordinating UAT with business users.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Communicate resolution progress and technical details of incidents and problems directly to Business Process Owners and key end‑users when required by the support model.
- Translate technical limitations or solution constraints into clear implications for business process execution.
- Facilitate clarification meetings with business stakeholders to ensure the proposed fix or small enhancement meets the original intent and operational needs.
Performance Optimization & Analytics:
- Monitor the execution and performance of critical batch jobs (e. g. , Billing and Invoicing runs, Mass document processing) and proactively address performance bottlenecks.
- Analyze recurring incidents and define permanent solutions (configuration or small code fixes) to improve overall system stability and reduce support volume.
- Execute data cleansing and maintenance activities as defined by the business (e. g. , meter data corrections, FICA document adjustments).
Compliance & Security:
- Ensure all system configurations and data handling activities adhere to data security, regulatory compliance, and internal auditing requirements (e. g. , Sarbanes‑Oxley/SOX controls relevant to FICA).
- Support the application of SAP Security Roles and authorizations related to specific IS‑U transactions and processes.
