School Safety Specialist/School Bus Driver Coordinator
Job Description
Primary Purpose
To support the vision, mission, and strategic priorities of ESC Region 12. The person will coordinate all bus training and trainers in ESC Region 12.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Preferred: 5 years in a supervisory position in school transportation
Special Knowledge/Skills
Experience in public education
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to facilitate, communicate, organize, and
- solve - Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
- Research capability
- Able to implement QMS initiatives
- Ability to use software to develop spreadsheets, perform data analysis, and word processing
- Ability to manage budgets and personnel
- Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees
General Responsibilities
- Collaborate with and provide professional development to assist and support school districts in understanding the school safety requirements and meet those requirements
- Provide training and coordination in areas noted above
- Keep Region 12 districts abreast of relevant current trends, issues, and legislation related to school safety
- Coordinate and create off‑site sessions for School Bus Driver certification and re‑certification training.
- Process, verify, and return training session rosters to ESC Region 12
- Manage the processing of online Re‑certification training
- Communicate with state officials for school transportation as required
- Research and provide information for school districts to maintain standards
- Issue and invoice participants/school districts for School Bus Driver Certification cards
- Maintain the school Bus Driver certification database
- Host and work at the TAPT Regional and/or State Texas School Bus Safety Speech Contest
- Attend state and national conferences as required to maintain skills and knowledge.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise the operation and personnel of the School Bus Driver Certification training.

Frequent travel within the region, state when appropriate

Standard office equipment, including personal computers and peripherals

Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Work Schedule
May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent regional travel, occasional statewide travel, occasional nationwide travel.

Make changes and adapt to various responsibilities on an ongoing basis,
Work with frequent interruptions, tight deadlines, and limited office space.

ESC Region 12 provides a monetary contribution up to $575 per month to use for employee/family healthcare and supplemental benefits
