Overview

The Tripadvisor Data Engineering Team is building innovative solutions at petabyte scale across multiple cloud environments and brands. We partner with Data Science, Machine Learning, Product, Engineering and Analytics teams to create experiences that power data products and insights for users worldwide.

What you’ll do

• Design, build, deliver and maintain
  - performing data models that define how data is stored and accessed to support business needs, analytics, AI/ML and application development.
• Participate in overall data architecture strategy, support data organization initiatives, and contribute to innovation workstreams.
• Collaborate
  - functionally with Product, Data Science, Machine Learning, Analytics, Business Leaders and other Engineering teams on
  - impact use cases and data model requirements.
• Translate requirements into data models at conceptual, logical and physical levels, culminating in modeling within the data stacks.
• Design efficient data structures, apply appropriate normalization/denormalization, and optimize for performance and scalability.
• Ensure models comply with data governance policies and standards; help define naming conventions, metadata and data quality rules.
• Maintain detailed documentation of data models, data dictionaries and relationships; create ER diagrams and modeling artifacts.
• Update data models as business requirements evolve; manage version control and track changes over time.
• Support streaming,
  - batch and batch processes by ensuring models meet integration requirements and align operational and analytical data needs.
• Thrive in ambiguity, understand problems and customer pain points, and solve them with effective data models and architectures.
• Participate in
  - call rotations and document and lead incident
  - mortems.
• Assist in the career development of others and help build technical communities across the organization.

Skills & Experience

• Extensive experience in data modeling.
• Recent proficiency with Snowflake, Knowledge Graphs (including Neo4j), and various AWS RDS/No
  SQL databases; solid design principles, performance tuning and observability.
• Proven track record in architecting and operating
  - availability,
  - tolerant and highly performant data models.
• Experience setting technical directions for
  - generation data architecture and influencing
  - functional teams.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders and drive decisions through written and verbal communication.
• Strong knowledge of AWS; knowledge of GCP or Azure is a plus.
• Deep understanding of data analytics and data visualization; knowledge of knowledge graphs.
• Proven leadership with a track record of contributing to
  - functional teams in
  - paced environments;
  - on coding as needed.
• Ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions; strong analytical skills and a focus on clean, correct, efficient designs.
• Proven ability to prioritize, communicate clearly, and partner effectively with technical and
  - technical colleagues.
