Senior Financial Modelling Analyst – Renewable Energy
Role Summary
You will be the go‑to financial analyst in our development team, taking full ownership of the financial models and business‑case tool‑kit that drive investment decisions for utility‑scale wind, solar‑PV and battery‑energy‑storage projects. Working hand‑in‑hand across multiple functions, including project development, resource modelling, engineering and finance, you will translate technical inputs and commercial terms into robust, decision‑ready outputs for the Investment Committee.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Modelling:
- Build, maintain and continuously improve the portfolio financial model covering pre‑tax and post‑tax, unlevered and levered cash flows.
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis to support commercial decisions, including PPA structuring, technology decisions,
- sizing and capital structuring, capex benchmarking and optimisation, etc. - Scenario & Investment‑Case Outputs:
- Distil complex modeling results into concise Power
Point packs to support Investment decision making. - Undertake comprehensive scenario and sensitivity testing to support executive level and board member decision making in uncertain environments.
- Illustrate capital‑structure options, returns waterfalls, project financing and tax optimisation with clear, visually engaging outputs.
- LCo
E & Technical Analytics: - Run Levelized Cost of Energy (LCo
E) and Levelized Cost of Storage (LCOS) analyses across alternative site layouts, turbine/module choices, degradation profiles and O&M regimes. - Partner with wind‑resource and solar‑resource engineers to translate energy‑yield assessments into bank‑grade financial inputs.
- Business Case Assumption Book management:
- Curate and own a single "source of truth" for all commercial, technical, macro‑economic, tax and financing assumptions.
- Maintain version control and change logs, coordinating sign‑offs with each workstream owner.
- KPI & Risk Management Templates
- Design templates linking model outputs to key project KPIs (IRR, NPV, DSCR, LCo
E, PPA structuring, carbon abatement cost, etc. ). - Quantify key sensitivities and risk mitigants
- Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
- Present models and assumptions to the internal Investment Committee, lenders and external advisors.
- Support due‑diligence Q&A and model audits, ensuring
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's in Finance, Engineering, Economics, or related field
- 4 + years in project finance, investment banking, Big‑4 advisory or IPP/utility; experience in renewables highly preferable
- Expert‑level Excel and Powerpoint required; familiarity with VBA, Python or Power BI a plus
- Deep understanding of LCo
E/LCOx methodology, tax depreciation regimes (MACRS, capital allowances, etc. ), debt sizing metrics and P50/P90 concepts - Clear communicator able to translate complex analysis into executive‑level insights
- Comfortable working under tight deadlines and juggling multiple live deals
