Senior Legal Counsel – Portugal

Location: Lisbon (Hybrid) | Occasional travel within Portugal and across Europe

Our client is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support its operations in Portugal, with involvement in broader European legal matters as needed. The role involves providing legal and compliance advice across commercial and regulatory issues, partnering with internal stakeholders to manage risk and support business goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, including construction agreements, supply contracts, and distribution partnerships.
• Advise on competition and regulatory matters, particularly regarding distribution and sales channels.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, legal policies, and compliance procedures.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks through
  - defined processes and governance.
• Manage claims, disputes, and regulatory matters as required.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Portuguese and EU laws, as well as internal company policies.
• Deliver internal training and support ethics and compliance programs.
• Provide general legal support across all areas of the business.

Candidate Profile

• Law degree (Licenciatura or Master’s) with admission to the Portuguese Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados).
• Fluent in Portuguese and English (spoken and written); strong digital literacy.
• Prior experience in an international corporate environment, ideally in an
  - house role.
• Strong analytical skills to handle complex legal and commercial matters.
• Business-oriented mindset with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Team player with the ability to work independently when required.
