Senior SAP ABAP Developer

Location: Lisbon (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite per week)

Job Type: Full-Time or Contractor (long-term)

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior SAP ABAP Developer to join an international and dynamic SAP delivery team. In this role, you will be responsible for the
-
- end technical design and delivery of robust, scalable SAP solutions across ECC and S/4HANA landscapes. You will play a key role in solution architecture,
- quality development, performance optimization, integrations, and production support, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Architecture

• Lead the design and implementation of complex ABAP solutions (Classical & OO ABAP), including reports, enhancements, forms, and reusable frameworks.
• Develop modern S/4HANA solutions using CDS Views, AMDP, and RAP (ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model) .
• Implement enhancements using User Exits, BADIs, Enhancement Framework, and BAPIs to meet business requirements.

Integration & Interfaces

• Design, build, and support interfaces using IDocs, RFCs, OData services, and SOAP/REST APIs .
• Collaborate with PI/PO and CPI teams to ensure reliable middleware orchestration.
• Monitor interfaces, manage errors, and ensure secure and consistent data exchange.

Performance & Quality

• Perform advanced debugging,
  - cause analysis, and performance tuning (ST05, SAT, SQL optimization).
• Ensure compliance with ATC and Code Inspector standards.
• Define and contribute to unit and integration testing strategies, including automation where applicable.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Mentor junior developers, conduct code reviews, and promote clean ABAP and SOLID principles.
• Work closely with functional consultants, architects, and product owners within an Agile delivery environment (planning, refinement, reviews).

Required Skills & Core Competencies

• Strong expertise in OO ABAP , CDS Views , AMDP , and RAP on S/4HANA.
• Extensive experience with IDocs, BAPIs, OData services, and API-based integrations .
• Advanced knowledge of performance tuning, memory management, and SQL optimization.
• Solid understanding of Fiori/UI5 backend integration , including OData services and annotations.
• Proficiency with SAP transport management and quality tools (ATC, SCI, SAT, ST05 ).
• Continuous improvement mindset with experience in
  - incident reviews and delivery optimization.
• Hands-on involvement across multiple full lifecycle SAP implementations .

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of SAP ABAP development experience , including S/4HANA projects.
• Proven leadership in complex delivery environments.
• Advanced English (C1 or higher) – mandatory, as stakeholders are part of an international team.

Preferred Attributes

• Exposure to SAP functional domains such as FI/CO, MM, SD, PM .
• Experience with Dev
  Ops practices (CI/CD for ABAP, Git-enabled CTS, test automation).
• Knowledge of security-by-design , authorizations, and data privacy principles.
• Familiarity with SAP BTP, CAP , and cloud or
  - driven integration patterns.
