We are hiring a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer for our Information Systems (IS) team. This role offers an opportunity for an
- focused senior technologist passionate about Linux to build a career with Canonical and support those leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. If you have experience in IT operations automation, Infrastructure as Code, and a passion for technology, you'll enjoy working with some of the best in the industry at Canonical.

Job Summary

The IS team supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services, serving over 60 million Ubuntu users.

As a Senior SRE & Gitops engineer, you will drive operations automation in private and public clouds by utilizing open source infrastructure as code software, CI/CD pipelines, and Canonical's automation products.

You will also provide feedback to developers on product operation at scale by submitting bugs, writing pull requests, and collaborating on design and implementation.

You will be part of a global team of SREs supporting services for our company, customers, and the Ubuntu Community.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading automation and Gitops development as an embedded tech lead
• Collaborating with IS architects to align solutions with architecture vision
• Designing services as products for IS
• Advancing infrastructure as code practices and increasing automation
• Automating software operations across clouds, considering distributed system complexities
• Maintaining operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure
• Developing troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance skills, and maintaining observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch
• Supporting and collaborating with distributed engineering, operations, and support teams
• Focusing time on larger projects and automation efforts
• Sharing knowledge through design sessions, mentorship, and collaborative work
• Handling
  - critical escalations

Requirements:

• Modern hosting architecture driven by infrastructure as code in private and public clouds
• Product mindset focused on developing products rather than just solutions
• Proficiency in Python with large projects experience
• Experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration systems
• Managing and deploying cloud infrastructure via code
• Linux networking, routing, firewalls knowledge
• Linux storage experience (Ceph, Databases)
• Experience administering enterprise Linux servers
• Deep understanding of cloud computing technologies
• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or related field
• Effective communication in English (email, chat, calls,
  - person)
• Strong troubleshooting skills from kernel to web, and collaborative attitude
• Flexibility, quick learner, and adaptability in
  - changing environments
• Comfort working within distributed teams
• Passion for
  - source, especially Ubuntu or Debian
