About the role:
As a Senior Strategic Buyer, you will lead a team of strategic buyers, fostering a
- performance culture and setting the standard for excellence in strategic sourcing. You will play a crucial role in driving the strategic direction of the procurement team and ensuring alignment with the overall business objectives.
The Senior Strategic Buyer will be responsible for the production and delivery of strategic sourcing projects and cost reducing process/supplier improvement projects, and the Source to Contract process working closely with Category Managers and project stakeholders.
As a member of this team, you will be expected to develop, outline, and execute projects in accordance with agreed upon deliverables, timings, and budgets.
Your key duties and responsibilities:
- The role will report directly to the Director/Head of Indirect Procurement, providing insights and updates on team performance and strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Oversee and manage a team of strategic buyers, providing leadership, guidance, and development opportunities to ensure the team meets its objectives.
- Mentor and coach team members to enhance their skills and performance, conducting regular performance reviews and identifying training needs.
- Collaborate with the Director/Head of Indirect Procurement to develop and implement
- term sourcing strategies that align with company goals. - Ensure that the team works towards their objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs), monitoring progress and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for senior stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and alignment on strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Work with relevant Category Manager(s) to develop and execute a fully integrated,
- aligned category plan for assigned category area(s). - Develop global sourcing strategies, aligned to the category strategy, to drive savings and value for the company.
- Manage the Source to Contract (S2C) process, including sourcing strategy execution (e. g. RFP/E-Auction), evaluation, recommendation, supplier selection, and award.
- Conduct or support negotiations.
- Support supplier segmentation, Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), and quarterly supplier reviews for all strategic suppliers.
- Support our stakeholders and local teams in efficiently resolving escalated issues.
- Manage stakeholder and supplier relationships to ensure that Sourcing Strategies are aligned to current and future business needs.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives that will generate value through increased supplier performance and/or capabilities.
- Develop contracts, agreements, and sourcing strategies for the supply of materials/products and services.
- Develop, evaluate, or manage internal and external relationships with suppliers and other
- functional teams. - Propose and implement improvements & innovations within the assigned spend area(s).
Skills & Experience:
- 4+ years working within a Strategic Procurement/Sourcing environment, employing a formal category/sourcing management process (preferably in a regulated industry), with MCIPS to level 4.
- Proven experience in managing and developing a team within a procurement or sourcing environment.
- Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to influence and drive change across the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team, fostering a collaborative and
- performing work environment. - Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, including senior management.
- Experience of strategic sourcing/running tenders.
- Understanding of Category Management principles with knowledge of how to define a strategy and experience of how to translate it into actionable plans.
- Experience working with
- procurement tools to find, evaluate & select the best vendors. - Able to demonstrate the values and behaviors required to be successful in the role and support the Convatec ‘Forever Caring’ Promise.
- Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy.

- oriented, with a focus on meeting required targets and deadlines. - Possess analytical
- solving skills and the ability to interpret complex problems. - Understanding of financial principles, resource planning, and allocation to support delivery of a Category Plan.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to a diverse audience, at multiple levels within the company.
- Able to negotiate with suppliers on all commercial and contractual matters.
- Able to promote and foster new ideas and strategies among internal and external stakeholders.
- Must be able to work with a range of technically and culturally diverse people.
Qualifications/Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in related subject desirable.
- MCIPS to level 6 or equivalent.
Working Conditions:
- Some travel will be required with this role including to other Convatec manufacturing facilities and to supplier facilities.
- This role is based in Lisbon with a hybrid working structure.
- Flexibility outside of core working hours may be required at times.
