- cloud at your fingertips which provides Ubuntu and appliance VMs on demand for build, test, and prototyping. The Multipass team is hiring a Software Engineer to join our distributed team. We value quality in our code and a great user experience.
Multipass is available for mac
OS, Windows, and Linux. Think of it as a workstation
- cloud. You can simply run multipass launch to get a new VM on your workstation, which can be used similarly to a public cloud like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
The goal is to provide developers with a local cloud for running background builds, testing cloud appliances, or deploying
- init scripts, all free of charge. It can also serve as a build farm on shared servers.
As a Software Engineer, you are expected to play a leadership role in designing, mentoring, reviewing, and coding.
Location: This is a remote position available in the EMEA region only.
What you will focus on
- Ensuring Multipass is easy and intuitive to use
- Architecting new features and designing the user experience
- Writing
- quality code to create new features and fix bugs - Reviewing code and architecture as part of Canonical's engineering process
- Collaborating proactively with a distributed team
- Debugging, tracking down, and fixing issues encountered by users
- Fostering the open source community and supporting customers when needed
- Traveling internationally for up to two weeks, twice a year, for company events
What we are looking for in you
- Cross-platform development experience on mac
OS and/or Windows - Expertise in modern C++ development
- Experience with software testing and
- driven development - Extremely high personal standards for code quality, testing, and design
- Knowledge of hypervisor technologies such as Hyper-V, Virtual
Box, KVM, and QEMU - Open source experience and involvement
- Knowledge of CI systems is a plus
- Ability to learn quickly about new systems and techniques
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
