We are hiring a Software Engineer on the Core Desktop team to build the next generation of immutable Ubuntu desktop.

Location

This is a
- based position in the EMEA region.

What your day will look like

• Design and develop elements of the Core Desktop.
• Work with the latest Linux container technologies.
• Write high quality, defensive code for millions of daily users.
• Collaborate with team members to understand the intricacies of immutable desktops.
• Participate in code reviews.
• Engage with the Ubuntu community to gather feedback.
• Contribute to documentation.
• Attend regular team meetings.
• Troubleshoot and resolve
  - reported issues.

We’re looking for

• Outstanding academic results.
• Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative of an alternative path.
• Understanding of software development methodologies and life cycles.
• Passion for technology and drive to work with motivated colleagues.
• Will­ingness to learn and adapt to challenges of immutable desktop environments.
• Skills in Linux containerisation technologies.
• Skills in Linux desktop environments.
• Experience in C/C++, Go, Python and Shell scripting.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to travel twice a year for company events.

• Familiarity with Rust, Golang and Dart / Flutter.
