We seek engineering managers passionate about operational systems, open source technologies, and
- edge hardware to lead teams enabling and optimizing Ubuntu for the latest x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x, and POWER systems.
We collaborate with leading silicon vendors to optimize Ubuntu on their platforms, integrating features and performance enhancements while maintaining a consistent user experience.
Engineering Managers should be excellent developers, comfortable reviewing patches and design specs. You will drive engineering practices, documentation, quality, and performance, leading your team to deliver
- quality design and code.
You will manage line development, guide careers, and represent your team and product technically, fostering collaboration with teams and customers. You will influence culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work on strategy and execution.
Location: This is a globally remote role with open positions across time zones.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing engineering teams from graduate to senior levels
- Overseeing commercial engagements and supporting project milestones
- Serving as technical lead on complex system architecture projects
- Implementing disciplined engineering processes
- Maintaining
- oriented software stacks - Optimizing Ubuntu for new hardware platforms
- Providing technical leadership internally and externally
- Participating in code reviews and documentation
- Contributing to leadership and collaboration efforts
Candidate requirements:
- Strong academic background from high school and university
- Degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience
- Fluency in C, C++, and Python
- Experience with Linux and system software (kernel or user space)
- Experience with Debian/Ubuntu or other distro packaging
- Leadership experience in software engineering teams
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
- Ability to communicate effectively and confidently
- Self-motivated and thoughtful
- Result-driven with a commitment to meet goals
- Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks
Nice-to-have skills:
- Open source community experience and licensing knowledge
- Knowledge of x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x architectures
- Understanding of build systems and
- compilation - Customer engagement experience
- Experience with board
- up, validation, virtualization, networking, graphics, containers/K8s, confidential computing, RDMA, HPC, performance benchmarking
