Solutions Architect

What do we do?
The Portal Application Center is a VWFS AG IT hub, and the first outside Germany. Here we will establish a long‑term Business & IT company of 120+ FTE. Our primary goal is to service all European markets in implementing and maintaining contract management systems. Our focus is on core systems, satellite systems (such as document management systems, collection systems) and also extends to integrations, data, and large project organizations. For this we seek a hands‑on Solution Architect.
Objectives
Ensure that application architectures including all subcomponents are defined and described in a clear and understandable way. We are starting this journey now; you will start by training and alignment with our Enterprise architects and establish a network with other solution architects in Europe. You will dive into complex topics within our application landscape to ensure we adhere to standards and at the same time achieve our business goals.
About you
We are looking for an enthusiastic personality who loves working with complex structures and architecture and someone who understands all application layers (functional and technical) and is able to put this in clear diagrams and can also ensure the architecture decided upon is checked on quality.
Responsibilities
- Create clear and structured diagrams (Visio, draw. io) and integrate them into Jira and Confluence documentation.
- Keep application data quality in our application central repository up to date.
- Work collaboratively with Enterprise Architects and other Solution Architects to define the future of our applications landscape.
- Define network concept documents, following our internal guidelines for network communication.
- Support projects and team members during environment setup, e. g. , DNS definition, firewall design to ensure all components are protected and isolated.
- Design solutions in accordance with strict financial market compliance requirements and demands (GDPR, DORA).
- Adhere to ITIL processes when designing solutions, preparing the needed workflow.
- Handle multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Work independently.
- Support our markets by reducing complexity by developing effective solutions for our business.
- Advise and present to IT management and project/product teams regarding improvements within strategic goals.
- Work closely with business analysts, information analysts, product owners, key users, the IT infrastructure architect, developers, vendors, application managers, security, and have a strong say in proposed application solutions and their testing by the architecture board.
- Ensure good cooperation with other teams.
- Prioritize standardization and deliver measurable results.
Qualifications
- University degree in business informatics or a comparable degree.
- Working experience in large complex enterprise environments including cloud technologies (AWS, Azure).
- Ability to design resilient solutions and produce well‑structured documentation.
- Experience with Power Platform.
- Experience with Co‑Pilot (nice to have).
- Experience with APM monitoring tools (Dynatrace, Application Insight, Datadog).
- Familiarity with ITIL, Service Management, and IT service management tools.
- Experience working in multicultural environments.
- Experience designing solutions incorporating enterprise‑grade secrets vaults (Cyber
Ark, Hashicorp Vault, Azure Key vault, or similar). - Experience with SDLC.
- Git as the collaborative first point for software development.
- CI/CD mindset.
- API First approach.
- Experience working in agile teams.
- Knowledge of architectural concepts and standards, and ability to guide teams on effective approaches.
- Proactive advising and support of team members in selecting optimal solutions tailored to specific challenges.
- Ability to plan and accomplish company goals.
- Good communication skills, high self‑responsibility, self‑initiative, and the ability to interact efficiently.
- Results‑oriented and team‑player attitude.
- Strong analytical and structural competence and ability to organize yourself independently.
- Fluent in English.
