The Process Design Engineer plays a pivotal role in developing innovative and efficient wastewater treatment solutions that align with Waterleau's business objectives and sustainability mission. Working closely with the Proposal, Sales, and Project Execution teams, the Process Design Engineer ensures that process designs are technically sound,
- effective, and tailored to client needs across all project phases — from concept to commissioning.
This role combines deep process engineering expertise with
- functional collaboration, ensuring that each design reflects Waterleau's technological excellence and commitment to a cleaner environment.
Responsibilities
Process Design & Development
- Develop and optimize biological, chemical, and physical wastewater treatment desings, including activated sludge, MBR, MBBR, tertiary treatment, sludge digestion, and dewatering.
- Prepare and validate heat and mass balances, process design calculations, and process flow diagrams (P&Ids and PFDs).
- Define and size key process units (reactors, clarifiers, pumps, blowers, filters, etc. ) and ensure compliance with internal design standards.
Engineering Deliverables & Documentation
- Produce and review P&IDs, datasheets, and design specifications for process equipment.
- Prepare process design notes, ensuring technical clarity and alignment with project requirements.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary design reviews, providing input to mechanical, electrical, civil, and control teams.
- Ensure design consistency across all project documents and adherence to Waterleau's quality standards.
Project & Proposal Support
- Provide technical input during proposal and tender phases, validating process assumptions and ensuring
- effectiveness. - Collaborate with the Proposal and Sales teams to develop competitive and technically feasible solutions.
- Support project execution teams during nasic engineer and detailed design.
Process Validation & Innovation
- Ensure that all process calculations and simulations follow internal design rules and are properly validated.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and standardization.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and integrate innovative solutions such as resource recovery,
- neutral operations, and circular water reuse.
Competences and Skills
Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of wastewater treatment principles (biological nutrient removal, sludge management, tertiary polishing).
- Proficiency with process simulation.
- Ability to perform mass and energy balances and process design calculations.
- Experience with industrial and/or municipal wastewater applications.

- Cross-functional collaboration with proposal, project, and operations teams.
- Quality and compliance orientation, ensuring adherence to design standards, regulations, and project specifications.
- Process documentation excellence — clear, accurate, and standardized outputs.

Qualifications
- Education: Master's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Chemical, Process, or Civil Engineering.
- Experience: 5–10 years of experience in process design for wastewater treatment plants (municipal or industrial).
- Skills:
- Advanced technical and analytical abilities.
- Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in English;
other languages are an asset.
