The Work You'll Do
As a Technical Writer at Sovos, you'll play a vital role in bridging the gap between complex tax compliance technology and the people who use it every day. Great documentation doesn't just explain features – it empowers users, reduces friction, and transforms complicated workflows into intuitive experiences. Your words will directly impact how customers interact with and succeed using our products.
You will work closely with cross‑functional teams including product managers, software developers, quality assurance engineers, and support leaders to craft high‑quality, effective documentation that meets the needs of our diverse user base. Whether you're creating step‑by‑step guides, release notes, or in‑product help content, you'll be the voice that helps users navigate our solutions with confidence.
This role is ideal for someone who loves turning technical complexity into clear, accessible content and thrives in a collaborative environment where your contributions have a tangible impact on customer success.
More Specifically, You Will
- Understand client needs as explained by senior documenters and product teams, delivering documentation that meets and exceeds expectations
- Craft clear, user‑friendly documentation using team templates and established content structures
- Collaborate with other Technical Writers to exchange ideas, share best practices, and reduce duplicate efforts
- Leverage AI‑powered writing and editing tools to enhance productivity and streamline content creation
- Ensure compliance with legal, style, and brand standards across all documentation
- Gather relevant, non‑redundant product feature information from product teams through research and collaboration
- Complete backlog items for product teams, contributing to sprint goals and delivery timelines
- Create and publish new online content using functional specifications and independent research
- Partner with product teams efficiently to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with product functionality
- Create and publish release‑specific user guides, installation guides, and release notes that keep customers informed and prepared
- Develop in‑product information that provides contextual help exactly when users need it
What We Need From You
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 0–3 years of software documentation experience
- Experience developing end‑user documentation (online and hard copy)
- Ability to create content from scratch using resources such as UI specifications and independent research
- Comfort operating within highly‑matrixed organisations, collaborating with subject matter experts across organisational boundaries
- Strong proofreading skills with meticulous attention to detail
- A passion for quality, consistency, and continuous improvement
- Experience developing in‑product information and contextual help
- Familiarity with or enthusiasm for AI‑powered writing tools to enhance content creation efficiency
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible language
- A curious mindset and eagerness to learn about new products and technologies
