Textile & Chemical Compliance Consultant

Overview

An international consulting organization is seeking a Textile & Chemical Compliance Consultant to support factory assessments, audits, and compliance projects across Europe and selected international regions. This role requires strong technical expertise in textile wet processing , chemical management, and
- level
- making, along with the ability to work independently in an international,
- based environment.


This position involves extensive travel and detailed technical reporting in English , as the consultant acts as the
- site representative delivering assessments and improvement recommendations to global brand and retailer stakeholders.



Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site and remote factory assessments and audits , primarily focused on wet processing operations (dyeing, printing, washing, finishing).
  • Evaluate factory implementation of requirements related to:
  • Chemical management and risk assessment
  • Restricted Substances Lists (RSLs)
  • Water consumption, wastewater treatment, air emissions, waste management, and traceability
  • Use a proprietary digital assessment tool (training provided) to review documentation, complete evaluations, and support corrective actions.
  • Visit factories to assess the level of implementation of technical and compliance requirements.
  • Provide clear explanations and technical guidance to mills and follow up on corrections.
  • Prepare clear, structured, and detailed technical reports in English .
  • Collaborate with international teams on
    - country projects and continuous improvement initiatives.



Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Textile Engineering (preferred), or 5–10+ years of equivalent experience in textile wet processing.
  • Strong
    - on experience in wet processes such as dyeing, printing, washing, or finishing (experience limited to spinning or weaving is not sufficient).
  • Background in production, technical
    - making, process optimization, or lab roles with production approval responsibility (not color development only).
  • Experience working with textile mills, chemical or dye suppliers, or brand/retailer technical or compliance teams.
  • Solid understanding of textile machinery, dye and chemical chemistries, and brand/retailer chemical requirements, including RSLs.
  • Familiarity with environmental and compliance topics such as chemical risk assessment, water and wastewater management, air emissions, and traceability.
  • ISO 9001 and/or ISO 14001 internal or lead auditor certification is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent written and spoken English ; strong technical
    - writing skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power
    Point).
  • Strong communication, presentation, project management, and
    - cultural collaboration skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (up to 75%) , including frequent international travel across Europe, North Africa, and occasional South America, with early departures and late or weekend returns when required.
  • Based in Portugal or willing to commute to Porto , with an initial
    - time office presence followed by a hybrid arrangement (typically 2–3 days per week in the office).
  • Compensation: €2, 200 – €2, 300 gross per month plus annual performance bonus (typically equivalent to one month’s salary), paid over 14 annual salary installments , with comprehensive health insurance including dependent coverage.
